I'm an expert at finding 101-ways to distract myself from getting things done... especially when it comes to mundane tasks. Folding clothes, washing dishes, dusting, cleaning the fridge, painting cabinets... life is full of them. Knowing full well that I will never be able to afford a housekeeper, I've commited myself to conquering my cranky, resentful - I hate mundane tasks - attitude.

When we were kids, my brother, cousins and I spent hours trekking through the douglas fir in search of strange bugs and blue-bellied lizards. Recently we found ourselves out in the trees once again, knee deep in ferns, covered in small spiny burs, and back on the hunt. But this time we had golden mushrooms on our minds.

A weekend storm came in and tore our awning. I've never seen so much water fall out of the sky, record-breaking even for this rainy part of the universe. But then the sun came out in Oregon and there were patches of light and shadow everywhere.
